They are frequently made with weak materials like cast aluminum or zinc, making them easy to break with simple tools like hammers or even by melting with a torch. The locking mechanisms are also easily defeated using shims or tension tools. Some locks, even those marketed as "universal," may have a loose fit on certain couplers, creating a weak point.
